GCFC signs strategic MoU with TNFD to anchor nature-related finance in the UAE
Abu Dhabi, 12 October 2025 – The Global Climate Finance Centre (GCFC), in partnership with the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), today announced the launch of the UAE TNFD Consultation Group during the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi.
The launch was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by Her Excellency Razan Al Mubarak, Co‑Chair of TNFD and President of IUCN, and Mercedes Vela Monserrate, CEO of GCFC. The MoU establishes the first TNFD Consultation Group in the UAE, creating a national platform for financial institutions, corporates, and regulators to accelerate the adoption of nature-related financial disclosures and risk management.
Her Excellency Razan Al Mubarak stated:
“The newly established UAE Consultation Group convened by GCFC marks an important milestone for the advancement of TNFD’s mission. Together, we can build the knowledge, tools, and capacity for financial institutions to understand and manage their dependencies and impacts on nature – turning global frameworks into local action that drives resilience and opportunity.”
Mercedes Vela Monserrate, CEO of GCFC, added:
“This collaboration with TNFD reflects GCFC’s commitment to helping institutions navigate nature-related risks with clarity and rigour. The Consultation Group offers a platform to build shared capabilities and translate emerging frameworks into actionable strategies that support informed, long-term decision-making”
The UAE TNFD Consultation Group will serve as a platform for technical dialogue, peer learning, and capacity building, helping financial and corporate actors identify and manage nature-related risks through TNFD’s LEAP approach. The initiative reflects growing national momentum to align financial flows with environmental priorities and strengthen the UAE’s leadership in nature-positive finance.
